September 22 marks the final day of summer, and Habitat SHR is closing out the season with a bang! Over the last few months, our construction team and volunteers have braved the heat and humidity to complete projects for three Habitat partner families. Because of their tireless efforts, we were able to host a series of home dedications for new, deserving homeowners this summer. As Habitat SHR staff, volunteers, and donors gathered to celebrate the new journey of our partner families late August, we shared in the excitement as the happy homeowners made preparations for the holidays in their new dwellings.
Home dedications are special moments for Habitat, as they allow us to witness our families take part in the American dream. By offering “a hand up, and not a hand out,” we empower hardworking, low-income families to attain affordable homeownership.
With the school year now in full swing, these hardworking families started the year off right – in a stable, secure, and safe environment to call home.
Congratulations are in order to the Smith, Case and Harper families on the purchase of their new homes! These success stories serve as a wonderful reminder that we are one step (or in this case, three steps!) closer to our mission to eliminate poverty housing in South Hampton Roads.
Cheers to a productive and exciting summer!
