Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads, Inc. has developed a Faith In Action program to expand our partnership with area churches, improve communications between the affiliate and our church partners, and offer additional opportunities for us to work together to transform lives and communities.
Features of this program:
- Faith In Action Meetings will be hosted by Habitat SHR three times a year (September, January, and May) to which all faith partners like yourself will be invited to attend.
- Communications tailored for the faith communities updating you on upcoming opportunities and sharing successes.
- Greater focus on our faith partners as customers who want to provide their members with opportunities for mission, outreach and service in our community. Also available, could be periodic Habitat mission/volunteer trips as selected by the groups to the Gulf Region, rural Virginia or North Carolina affiliates, or international locations.
- "Apostle's Build" opportunities throughout South Hampton Roads as land is available. This would be an opportunity for churches like yours to partner together with the same mission: to finish a home for a family.
- "Brush With Kindness" (ABWK) program to offer churches more "short-term" and less costly missions, fellowship, and outreach opportunities with South Hampton Roads. Read more about ABWK.
- "Weekday Warriors" program to provide fellowship and purpose to retired persons and keep building projects on course.
- Access to Habitat's many programs for churches on the issues of poverty housing, the power of churches and individuals to make a difference in the world, and the biblical basis of Habitat's mission. These programs include Vacation Bible School Programs, Sunday School Curriculum for children, Youth Activities and Small Group Studies.
- Habitat SHR speakers and homebuyers available to talk about the issue of poverty housing in our region and share the story of our mission with your congregation for Sunday school classes, committee meetings, or worship services.
- Alternative fundraising ideas to spur your memberships support of Habitat and other mission opportunities.
- Volunteer/Faith in Action committee providing opportunities for faith partners to have representation and input into the programs, policies, and procedures of Habitat SHR. Other affiliate committees inviting participation from church volunteers include Construction, Land Acquisition and Development, General Store, Resource Development and Marketing, and Family Support and Selection.
