On Saturday, Congressman Robert “Bobby” Scott and his congressional staff kicked off National Homeownership Month with a Habitat SHR team build at our property on 721 Bold Street in Portsmouth. The Bold Street property is one of 24 homes that will be renovated and sold to low-income families as part of the Rebuilding the American Dream (RAD) initiative.
Quite the handyman with the hammer, Congressman Scott led his team on their assignment to measure, cut, and hang siding on the back and side of the home. The team also assisted with painting, and much of the heavy lifting throughout the afternoon.
When asked about his partnership with Habitat, he responded, “Homeownership addresses a myriad of disparities related to education, health and wellness, and employment. I am committed to supporting organizations that provide opportunities for all families to own a piece of the American Dream and realize the vast economic and social benefits of homeownership.”
Congressman Scott’s commitment to serving constituents extends beyond the House floor and right into the backyards of the families we serve everyday. Thank you Congressman Scott for celebrating National Homeownership Month with the Habitat SHR team. We appreciate your support, as we endeavor to help hardworking, low-income families attain affordable homeownership in South Hampton Roads.
