Celebrating Earth Day: REcycle, REuse, ReSTORE!

| Posted on 22 April, 2014

Recycling. Gardening. Litter Removal Projects. Throughout the day, we can expect to see a flurry of community events of this sort – designed to promote environmental education, awareness, and protection. As you plan environmentally friendly events or activities in observance of Earth Day, consider adding shopping to the list. That’s right, shopping…at Habitat ReStores, of course!

ReStores are great models for environmental stewardship. Habitat SHR ReStores sell gently used appliances, furniture, and building materials, which help to eliminate waste, preserve natural resources and ultimately protect the environment. A single purchase made at one of our four ReStores contributes to shared recycling efforts and has the potential to significantly reduce our carbon footprint in the community. Customers that regularly donate to our ReStores also help keep thousands of tons of usable building materials out of our landfills each year. Check out this video to see our ReStore concept in action:

So you’ve been looking to upgrade your appliances or redecorate your home on a budget? There’s no better time than the present to purge or purchase. In addition to conserving the earth’s resources, your support of Habitat SHR’s ReStores will also help you to conserve your resources and save a few bucks! ReStore patrons can expect to pay 50% less than retail prices at traditional home improvement stores.

All ReStore proceeds and donations provide funding for Habitat SHR’s home building and renovation projects. With your support, we can advance our mission to eliminate poverty housing in South Hampton Roads; while simultaneously protecting our earth to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations.
