GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!
GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Meet the Boatright Family -
Alex, a single mother of two boys, Adyn and Garrett. Alex has faced challenges in her life. At first it was the challenge of being a military wife, followed by raising a child with Down's Syndrome, followed by a divorce and now raising both boys. Garrett resides at St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, but Alex's wish is that one day he can live at home with his brother and mother.
Alex certainly has had more than her share of heartbreaks during the past 12 years, yet her energy and zest is contagious. A new chapter will begin when she moves into her Habitat house later this year. Alex never loses sight of the fact that – no matter how bad things seem to be – there’s someone facing worse situations. It is people like Alexandrea Boatright for whom Habitat for Humanity offers not a handout or a gift, but rather, an opportunity. And as is readily apparent, Alex – as are others like her – is genuinely grateful. That is the very foundation for Habitat for Humanity’s success.

YOU Can Be a Weekday Warrior
If you are looking for a chance to get out of the house, teach others what you know or learn more building skills, this could be your opportunity. Although much of our volunteer work is done on Saturdays, we have mobilized a mid-week volunteer team to keep builds on schedule and ensure high quality work. This enthusiastic team gets the opportunity to use their skills around our service area and look forward to the team camaraderie. If you possess novice carpenter skills, basic construction skills or are a construction dynamo and are available to work Wednesdays on various Habitat projects, please contact our Director of Logistics and Planning.

Volunteers in the Spotlight - Granby HS
A yellow bus arrived at the Habitat office the morning of March 27th delivering a group of nine curious, energetic, enthusiastic students from Granby High School. Their initial "assignment" was to choose a staff member to visit with, and learn at least one fact about Habitat and our mission. From that point, most of the students spent time in the General Store assisting with a variety of tasks. A smaller group, equipped with gloves and trash bags, diligently circulated through the parking area and grounds picking up debris which resulted in a really big improvement in Habitat’s "curb appeal". During their lunch break, the students individually shared what they had learned about Habitat, and watched a music video especially made for Habitat by Bon Jovi. The yellow bus returned and, as they were departing, all of the students remarked that they had a good time and would like to come back. The staff’s response: "Ditto!". Click here to view a group photo.
Share your story and win a Habitat trip! By entering Habitat World’s Carter Work Project essay contest, you could win a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to join hundreds of volunteers during this year’s Carter Work Project in November. The essay topic: In 500 words or less, give us your definition of “home” and describe why you choose to volunteer for and/or donate to Habitat for Humanity. Click here to learn more about the Habitat World essay contest. Submissions due April 30, 2009.

"A Brush With Kindness"
ABWK logo "A Brush With Kindness" (ABWK) is a facet of our Faith in Action program. This unique program allows groups such as churches, businesses, and community organizations to volunteer and financially support short term home-repair and maintenance projects for eligible homeowners.
Low-income homeowners who would like to enlist the help of "A Brush With Kindness" MUST submit an application along with a $12 processing fee. Click here for an application.
Our "A Brush with Kindness" program is currently involved in a very atypical project. We are renovating a home that was damaged by fire last summer. Fortunately, we are being led by someone who really knows what they are doing, Pete Owen of Atlantic Building Corporation.
Along with Pete’s expertise, we have been blessed to have some dedicated and hard working volunteers through the first three phases of the project. Look for future phases to be scheduled on the "VolunteerUp" link on our website. If you have a group that would be interested in funding one of these projects, please contact Kathy Wright at 640-0590 or abwk1@verizon.net.

NOTE: This newsletter is a communication tool for the entire Habitat SHR family. Housing sponsors and other partnering groups are invited to submit articles highlighting upcoming events, special volunteers, dedicated donors or other topics associated with our shared work and mission. Please submit newsletter copy to Sheila.
